Canadian Wins 1994
17 Wins
In 1994, my first full year without my apprenticeship or bug (weight allowance for inexperience compared to other seasoned riders or journeymen) was a tough one. It all started off with my previous agent (someone who helps a jockey obtain rides from trainers) told me that he took on another jock and left me a week before races started to find myself another agent.
I did so but after working with him for a couple of months, he told me that he couldn't work for me anymore as I was making him too much money and he couldn't be on government support. In other words he didn't want to work for his money and preferred to take money from the Government as his source of income. Loser!!!
As I wasn't going to waste anymore time and the with the shortage of agents that year, I then decided to be my own agent for the rest of the year. I did well for myself, however it took a toll on myself after many months and therefore resulted in a small number of wins that year.
