I rode in Trinidad on about 5 occasions back in 1992 and 1992. A fellow jockey friend of mine Jono Jones and I left Barbados on December 27th or so in 1991 and we stayed with his Aunt - Auntie Francis! We rode out on mornings and spent the rest of the day exploring Trinidad.
We rung in the new year of 1992 at a club where there was at least a thousand or two people. It was a good night, however as we rode on Jan. 1st at the races, I got home quite early for a new years party (3am or so)
Woke up and went straight to the races. That day I didn't do any better than 3rd or 4th on a few rides. We continued to stay in Trinidad until the January 4th raceday, where I was a bit luckier. I rode and won on Collected for trainer Roy Podmore. The strange thing about this win was the fact that four years previously, my brother won his first race in Trinidad on a horse for the same owner and groom as I did on Collected! Bizarre! Fate!
One other photo that I have in my possession (thanks to Auntie Francis) is of Main Man on whom I finished 2nd to jockey Emile Ramsammy who is now based at Woodbine racetrack in Toronto and also rides at Santa Anita in California.
